Judge Rules nunchucks are now legal in New York under Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms

According to New York Times, a  federal court says New York’s ban on nunchucks, the martial arts weapon made famous by Bruce Lee but prohibited in the state for decades, is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.

There was a federal court ruling by Judge Pamela Chen in Brooklyn last Friday.

James Maloney who is the plaintiff, started a legal battle in court after he was charged with possession of nunchucks back in 2000.

Square dancing is the keep-fit pastime of choice for most middle-aged Chinese women, but one villager in southeast China's Fujian Province has impressed with her mastery of nunchuks. Video of Ms. Lei wielding the martial arts weapon has gone viral, showing her using it to cut a cucumber, put out candles and light a match, among other stunts.

Maloney plans to teach a special type of martial art with the use of nunchucks which he created for his sons, Time Magazine says.

Since 1974 there had been a ban on the nunchucks weapon in the State of New York from private citizens.

The Nassau County district attorney is the named defendant to the suit.
