Matibi is a little boy from the Congo who came to the U.S. with assistance from retired NBA star Dikembe Mutombo. According to TMZ, Matibi is on the operating table right now, and hopefully before the day is through, his tumor will be removed.

Eight year-old Matibi went into surgery at Children's Hospital around 11:30 AM in Los Angeles this morning. TMZ is told the operation will take about 6 hours to complete. His family has accompanied him and is waiting on word from the doctors.

The lead surgeon, Dr. Ryan Osborne from Cedars Sinai Medical Center volunteered his services, after learning about Mutumbo and his good deeds of performance with Matibi, says TMZ

His family is currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles. TMZ along with Mutumbo greeted the little boy from the airplane when he came from Africa.

TMZ says, Mutumbo met Matibi while visiting the Congo and was so taken by his story he made arrangements to bring him to Los Angeles for surgery.

Because of his disfigured face, Matibi has been removed from school, considered an outcast and has been secluded away from everyone. They are hoping for a life changing outcome once the procedure is accomplished. Stay tuned for more updates.
